🦋 Our Walker Elementary Kindergarteners had an amazing hands-on science lesson with Kathy Peek, butterfly enthusiast and co-host of the Springdale Monarch Festival! 🌼 She guided students through the butterfly life cycle and shared how these fascinating creatures survive, find food, and interact with their environment. 🌿🌞
This engaging experience brought our Arkansas Kindergarten Science Standards to life:
🔍 K-LS1-1 – Students observed what butterflies need to survive.
🏞️ K-ESS2-2 – They learned how caterpillars change their environment by eating leaves.
🌍 K-ESS3-1 – Students discovered how butterflies rely on specific plants and places to live.
🌱 K-ESS3-3 – We explored how planting flowers can help protect butterflies and reduce human impact!
We’re so thankful for community partners like Kathy who make learning real, relevant, and exciting! 💛

Did you know that science vocabulary plays a huge role in developing language skills? Our multilingual learners have been diving into a unit on habitats—exploring the animals that live in each, the weather conditions they face, and the unique characteristics that help them survive. These conversations are more than just fun—they’re laying the foundation for understanding key biological science concepts! To wrap up our unit, our beginning multilingual learners explored interactive globes featuring animals around the world, toy animal models, and even created stop motion movies featuring the animals we studied. Science and language truly are the perfect pair! #SpringdaleFamily
